A Room for Coffee…

A cup of the rich beverage at Concoctions Coffee Shop is a trip worth the long drive. Located north of Manila in the province of Bulacan. Tucked almost unobtrusively along McArthur High Way is a cozy, old Filipino, rustic coffee shop amidst the bustle of a young city that is Malolos. Many of its customers are from around the area but people from not-so-near places have discovered a one-of-a-kind place.

What makes Concoctions Coffee different is evident in the name of the shop itself. The owner and barista, Candice, makes her own versions of classic coffee mixes, and a lot of her own “concoctions”. Some of them she creates on the spot. Her maverick approach to making her coffee mixes is a refreshing take compared to what we would normally get from international coffee chains. Curious coffee drinkers and connoisseurs alike should find the coffee to die for, combined with the pleasant atmosphere beckoning them to stay for another cup.

History in the Making…

While attending the Center for Culinary Arts in Manila in 2000, Candice Iso, honed her skills in Baking and Pastry Arts. The perfect match for coffee, she thought. A coffee lover, she frequented coffee places in and around Manila trying to savor the rich, aromatic beverage. After completing rigorous training from well-known establishments around the Philippines, she chose to embark on the risky venture of putting up her own coffee shop where she could freely make her own baked creations and concoct her own coffee mixes.

Armed with sheer creativity and her passion for coffee, Candice opted for the name “Concoctions”. Staying away from the typical look of international coffee shop chains, Concoctions is a true original. The cozy, Filipino-rustic design concept of the place was the brainchild of her equally talented interior designer consultant sibling, Kristen Leigh. The shop’s interior is a mix and match of well-chosen old and new things, a comfortable and interesting place to visit with a lot of surprising, unconventional approach to design.

The shop was completed in February 14, 2003 and has since served numerous coffee aficionados who always manage to find their way back to enjoy Candice’s coffee concoctions.
